Overview

We’re bringing 13 world championships together in one mega event, the 2023 UCI Cycling Worlds, between 3 - 13 August. 

It’s the biggest cycling event ever with a global audience of millions, hundreds of thousands of visitors in attendance, and we can’t do it without you.

If you have applied to volunteer, please follow this link to your volunteer portal where you will find everything you need for your volunteer journey.

Applications to volunteer are now closed – but you can add your name to our waiting list in case any roles do become available between now and the Championships.

Eligibility

You must be:

  • 16 years or older as of 1 July 2023
  • Available to volunteer for approximately 6 shifts from 24 July - 15 August 2023
  • Allowed to volunteer in the UK
  • Able to communicate confidently in English (speaking, reading, listening & writing). English or British Sign Language does not need to be your first language
  • Willing to undergo a background security check and provide accepted proof of identity (if required for your role)
  • Available to participate in the selection process, either online, via telephone, or in person

It’s a great way to learn new skills, meet new people, give something back to your community, and show the world the very best of Scotland.

No. Enthusiasm is more important. We’ll match your interests to the right role.

No. We are looking for volunteers with a range of skills, interests and experience.

Yes. You must be 16 years of age or older as of the 1st July 2023.

We’ve got loads on offer and we’ll match your interests to the best fit. 

No, however we will prioritise those that are. 

If you have a particular interest in an event hosted elsewhere, we will consider that.

If you are a UK Citizen, have settled status, pre-settled status, are seeking asylum, have the right to remain in the UK or are here on a Tier 4 student visa, then you can volunteer. We welcome applications from international volunteers at this time and are working with our partners to understand what opportunities may be available. If you are an international volunteer, you will be responsible for your own travel and accommodation.

Most roles will be six shifts. Some road races will require fewer.

You must be able to speak and read English or communicate in British Sign Language.

No. You must make your own arrangements.

All volunteers will be trained to carry out their role.

You will not be given tickets, but you can still buy tickets for any event. 

We ask you to update your availability on the system so we don’t put you on shift during the event you wish to attend as a spectator.

Yes. Please let us know that you require this so we can put the necessary arrangements in place.

Please let us know your individual circumstances and we’ll do what we can to ensure you have what you need.

Some roles may require checks. We won’t ask for this information unless it’s required, and we’ll let you know before you  confirm your role.

Yes. You can volunteer for as many hours as you wish and still claim benefits if you continue to meet the conditions of the benefit you receive and you only get money from volunteering to cover expenses (such as travel costs). If you have any concerns please speak directly to your Department for Work and Pensions office.
