ON YER BIKE! Lidl wheels out free bike repairs and health checks ahead of 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships

Dr Bike mechanics will be popping up in the car parks of ten Lidl stores across Scotland between Thursday 6 -Sunday 9 July.

As the Official Fresh Food Partner of the 2023 Cycling World Championships in August, Lidl is celebrating the ‘One Month to Go’ milestone by taking their shopping up a gear and installing free bike servicing surgeries in Scotland store car parks between Thursday 6 and Sunday 9 July.

Regular bike services can be hard to keep up with, so from Dumfries to Dundee, Edinburgh to Inverness, mechanics will be riding across Scotland to let customers conveniently lock in a free bicycle health check while doing their weekly shop.

Already committed to helping the nation eat better, Lidl’s free bike check-up initiative helps support the other essential part of a healthy lifestyle - exercise.

Customers can find the dedicated marquees within their local store car park, where they will receive a bike safety check-up from fully qualified mechanics. This will include necessary basic fixes and maintenance advice.

A&E repairs will include replacing worn brake pads, brake and gear cables, as well as tightening headsets and adjusting gears. For anything more serious, customers will be given a ‘Dr’s Note’ listing what’s needed to get their bike running smoothly again.

Lidl’s middle aisle will also be stocked with bargains for keen cyclists to saddle up with. These include an LED bike light set (£12.99), a bike work stand (£27.99), a bike cleaning set (£5.99) and a saddle bag toolkit with a mini bike pump included (£5.99).

The retailer is looking to help customers get their bikes roadworthy ahead of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships (Thursday 3 August-Sunday 13 August), as Lidl prepares to be Official Fresh Food Partner of the tournament.

Ross Millar, Lidl’s Regional Director for Scotland, said: “The countdown is on for this year’s 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships, and we want to support our customers to get themselves and their bikes ‘race ready’. There’s no reason why anyone in Scotland with a bike of their own shouldn’t be able to feel like a champion this summer and a free bike surgery is one way to help them do just that – as Official ‘Fresh Food Partners’ we are proud to deliver this at their convenience alongside their normal weekly shop!”

"Our partnership with UCI World Championships is a natural fit for Lidl as we work together on the shared values of promoting healthier lifestyles through exercise and making affordable, healthy food accessible to everyone."

Trudy Lindblade, CEO, 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships said: “The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships is an opportunity for people to embrace the power of the bike in their everyday lives. We encourage as many people as possible to support Lidl’s free bike health check initiative to ensure your bike is safe to ride to enjoy all the benefits cycling can bring, such as improved health and well-being”.
